Cotobro is a natural coastal bathing beach located in Almuñecar, Granada, on the Mediterranean Sea. The beach extends 370 meters in length with an average width of 17 meters and features a composition of boulders, gravel, and dark sand. It experiences calm bathing conditions with deep waters and moderate wave exposure dominated by easterly winds. The beach is highly occupied and has an urban character with a promenade and walkways.

Mediterranean coastal water body. Bathymetry: deep waters. Substrate: mud and sand. Micromareal range of 0–2 meters. Current regime dominant towards northeast. Wave regime dominated by easterly and east-southeast winds. Annual precipitation: 400–600 mm.

Location

Almuñecar, Granada, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot and by car. The beach is part of the Granada coastal area near the Maro-Salobreña cliffs.

Red Cross lifeguard post. Toilets. Showers. Bins. Cleaning service. Signage. Walkways. Surveillance equipment. Mooring zone available. Adjacent marina (Marina del Este). No disabled access. No nautical equipment rental or diving zone.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent during all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Water quality is subject to microbiological short-term contamination risk from diffuse sources including land use, built surfaces, and altered areas in the zone of influence. Risk level is low with a 24-hour duration methodology based on deterministic assessment.

Risks

Low risk of short-term microbiological contamination from the Rambla Cotobro watercourse. Low risk for jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
