Playa Paseo Mistral is a 400-metre beach in San Javier located on the Mar Menor, a coastal lagoon in the Segura River Basin. The beach features golden sand with a 20-metre average width and naturally flat composition. It experiences a tidal range of less than 2 metres and water renewal occurs within 7 days. The beach is semi-urbanized with medium occupancy levels and accommodates approximately 3,600 swimmers daily. Water quality was rated as excellent during 2007–2011.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent during 2007–2009 and 2010–2011. No significant pressure sources identified. Toxic phytoplankton risk rated null or very low; monitoring in 2008 and 2009 detected negligible presence of potentially toxic cells. No authorized discharges in the proximate area.

Risks

Jellyfish blooms occur seasonally, with peak abundance from early spring to late summer. Episodes of toxic phytoplankton proliferation are rare and unlikely to affect public health. Risk from jellyfish and phytoplankton is natural and variable.
