Granada is a coastal bathing water in Motril, Andalucía, located along the Mediterranean Sea. The beach spans 1,389 metres in length with an average width of 30 metres and features dark sand composition. It has calm bathing conditions and medium occupancy levels. The beach is part of the Salobreña-Calahonda water body and benefits from urban development with good accessibility.

Current regime: dominant towards the northeast. Wave exposure: moderately exposed. Dominant wave direction: east and east-southeast associated with Levante wind.

Location

Motril, Granada province, Andalucía. Easy access on foot or by car. Disabled access available. Lifeguard station and rescue equipment present. Signage provided.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Water quality classification is 'Excellent'. Risk of short-duration contamination is low and microbiological in nature (24-hour duration). Identified pollution sources include diffuse sources from land use, built-up surfaces, and agricultural areas, and point sources from Torraspapel Motril (industrial process facility) and Motril wastewater treatment plant (urban treated discharge).

Risks

Short-duration microbiological contamination risk classified as low. Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation.
