Playa Las Playitas is a coastal bathing beach located on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 532 metres long and 62.5 metres wide, with fine dark sand and rocky substrate. It is protected from wave exposure and has calm water conditions with a tidal range of 1–3 metres. The beach offers pedestrian access, a maritime promenade, facilities for disabled visitors, and services including showers, changing rooms, and bars.

Water

Coastal water body classified as ES70FVTII (Punta Entallada – Punta de Jandía) and ES70FV003 (Gran Tarajal Basin). Bathymetry ranges from 0 to –13 metres. Water conditions are calm with protected wave exposure. Tidal range is 1–3 metres. The substrate consists of fine dark sand and boulders.

Location

Playa Las Playitas is located in the municipality of Tuineje on the island of Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is available via regular routes. No parking is available at the beach.

Public drinking water from distribution network (potable), showers, foot-washing stations, services, changing rooms, bars, waste bins, disabled access (regular), pedestrian access (regular), maritime promenade. No lifeguards, medical services, public telephone, or public parking.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) collected over four years according to RD 1341/2007. The coastal water body ES70FVTII is in good ecological status (biological and physical-chemical) with good or better overall state.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Las Playitas fishing port (Muelle de Las Playitas). Point sources: desalination plant discharge from Hotel Las Playitas and Las Playitas wastewater treatment plant (EDAR). Potential short-duration pollution risks include stormwater overflow from heavy rainfall, raw or treated urban wastewater (pipe breaks, treatment failures, emergencies), brine discharge from desalination plant, and accidental hydrocarbon or organic waste spills. Cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
