Playa Gran Tarajal is a coastal bathing area located on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 599 meters long and 88.9 meters wide, featuring fine dark sand substrate. It is protected from wave exposure with calm water conditions and a tidal range of 1–3 meters. The beach supports various water activities including bodyboarding, skimming, kayaking, and surfing, as well as beach sports like handball and football.

Coastal seawater body. Bathymetry ranges from 0 to −13 meters. Water regime is calm. Wave exposure is protected. Substrate is fine dark sand. Tidal range is 1–3 meters.

Gran Tarajal, municipality of Tuineje, island of Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is available (regular standard). Vehicle access is not permitted. A seaside promenade is present. Disabled access is available (regular standard). Parking is available (regular standard).

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on four years of analytical results for faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) according to RD 1341/2007. The water mass ES70FVTII (Punta Entallada – Punta de Jandía) is in good ecological status with a good or better overall state. No previous contamination episodes are recorded.

Risks

Diffuse source: Gran Tarajal port. Point sources include Gran Tarajal wastewater treatment plant (EDAR), submarine outfall (from EDAR, brine, farms, and private sources), and brine discharge from EDAM Gran Tarajal. Watercourse: Barranco La Florida. Short-duration contamination risks include rainfall runoff (sporadic, less than 72 hours), raw or treated urban wastewater (unforeseen, less than 72 hours), and accidental hydrocarbon or organic waste discharge (unforeseen, less than 72 hours). Cyanobacterial proliferation (Trichodesmium) occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
