Playa Punta de Calnegre is a 1,100 metre long natural beach located on the Mediterranean coast near Lorca, Spain. The beach has a golden sand bottom with gravel composition and experiences a micromareal tide range of less than 2 metres. Water renewal occurs within 7 days. The beach is suited for bathing and serves local users with moderate occupation levels and a semi-urban setting.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal water. The bathing zone is 1,100 metres long with a mean width of 30 metres. The seabed is golden sand with gravel composition. Water renewal rate is less than 7 days. Tidal range is micromareal, less than 2 metres.

Location

Located near Lorca on the Mediterranean coast at coordinates 37.510020°N, 1.401544°W (UTM zone 30N, coordinates 641384.9, 4152860.62). The beach has a promenade and is situated in the coastal water body known as Puntas de Calnegre-Punta Parda.

Facilities

Foot washing stations (6 units). Showers, toilets, and changing rooms are not available.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent from 2000 to 2011, including the years 2010 and 2011. No significant pollution pressure has been identified. No authorized discharge occurs in the immediate area.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation risk is null or very low based on 2008 sampling. Jellyfish episodes of short duration are unlikely, though jellyfish have seasonal appearance patterns with maximum abundance between early spring and late summer. Jellyfish production is highly variable.
