Playa Santa Águeda (El Pajar) is a coastal bathing beach located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain. The beach measures 240 metres in length and 24 metres in width with dark sand substrate. The water is characterized by calm seas, weak wave exposure, and a tidal range of 1–3 metres. The official bathing season runs from 1 June to 30 September.

Coastal water body, Southwest coastal typology (ES70GCTII). Bathymetry ranges from 0 to −5 metres depth. Wave exposure is protected. Water regime is calm. Substrate is dark sand. Tidal range is 1–3 metres.

San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, Las Palmas Province, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian and vehicle access are both available (good condition). Disabled access is available (regular condition). Parking is available (regular condition). A promenade is present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on four-year evaluation of fecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. The water body is in good ecological status (biological and physical–chemical). No previous contamination episodes are recorded in the monitoring system.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source: Arguineguín sports and fishing port. Point pollution sources: El Pajar submarine outfall (Arguineguín wastewater treatment plant and La Charca auxiliary treatment facility), El Pajar submarine outfall relief, cement factory accidental discharge. Potential contamination episodes: untreated or treated urban wastewater (outfall breaks, sewage network failures, emergency overflows, unauthorized discharges); accidental cement factory discharge; accidental discharge of hydrocarbons, organic waste, ship cleaning. No current risk from jellyfish or sea urchins. Cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) recorded in 2004, 2010, and intensively in 2017. No risk from macroalgae.
