Playa Troya I (Américas I) is a coastal bathing beach located in Adeje, Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 206 meters long and 44.4 meters wide with dark sand substrate. It is exposed to moderate wave conditions but experiences calm waters overall. The beach has good pedestrian and vehicle access with a promenade and regular parking availability.

Coastal water body. Bathymetry ranges from 0 to minus 2 meters. Tidal range 1 to 3 meters. Wave regime characterized as calm waters with exposure rated as exposed-protected. Substrate consists of dark sand. Part of natural surface coastal water body ES70TFTV_1 - Montaña Pelada – Barranco Seco.

Location

Located in Playa de Las Américas, municipality of Adeje, province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Good pedestrian access and vehicle access. Parking available with regular capacity.

Facilities

Lifeguards present. Showers and foot washing stations available. Toilets and changing rooms. Disabled access (good). Public telephone, megaphone not available. Trash containers. Public water source not available. Umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. Bars available. Health care services available, no on-site doctor.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on monitoring of fecal indicators Escherichia coli and Enterococcus intestinalis over four years according to RD1341/2007. The water body has good or better ecological status with good chemical state.

Risks

Four identified point sources of pollution: EBAR overflow at Barranco de Troya, submarine outfall at Barranco de Adeje–Arona, EDAM Hotel Tenerife–Sol, and EBAR overflow at Playa de Troya. Contamination episodes recorded: July 2016 (diffuse microbiological pollution), February 2019 (short-duration microbiological pollution), August 2019 (short-duration microbiological pollution). Risks from stormwater runoff carrying contaminants, untreated or treated urban wastewater from pipeline breaks or overflow events, and brine discharge. Episodes of cyanobacterium Trichodesmium proliferation recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
