Location

Santander, Cantabria. Accessible by car via road S-20. Urban bus transport is available. Parking available with 50 spaces.

Facilities

Lifeguards, showers, telephone, waste bins, lifeboat equipment, first aid station (Cruz Roja), kiosks, local police.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (2005–2009), Very Good (2010), Sufficient (2011). Chlorophyll-a concentration approximately 3 µg/l. Low phytoplankton density below 5,000,000 cells/l. High risk of non-compliance with Directive 2006/7/CE due to influence of storm overflow discharge from the Virgen del Mar wastewater treatment plant.

Risks

High risk of contamination from storm overflow discharge of the wastewater treatment plant. Four identified discharge points in the area including urban wastewater (EDAR San Román), storm overflow relief, and aquaculture facility.
