Zahara de los Atunes is a coastal bathing water located in Tarifa, Cádiz, along the Atlantic Ocean. The beach stretches for 3,100 metres with an average width of 70 metres and features golden sand with rocky substrate. Swimming conditions are characterised by moderate waves and wind exposure. The water is classified as Atlantic coastal waters influenced by Mediterranean waters.

Atlantic coastal waters. The water body is classified as mesomareal with a tidal range of 2–4 metres. The seabed consists of sand with rocks in shallow waters. Currents are dominant towards the south, south-southeast, and southeast. Wave regime is dominated by westerly winds with secondary southeast waves.

Location

Located in Tarifa, Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot and by car. The beach is semi-urbanised with a medium occupancy level.

Facilities

Red Cross station, lifeguard rescue equipment, surveillance team, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, and nautical equipment rental available. Hazard signalling is present. No beach promenade, footbridges, disabled access, or signage for the facility.

Water quality classification was Excellent for all seasons monitored between 2013 and 2016. Risk of short-term contamination is low and microbiological in nature, with a duration of up to 24 hours. Risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation is low.
