Ponte da Ranca is a rural beach located in the Douro River basin with a wide lawn and forest area. The bathing water is monitored fortnightly during the official swimming season. Water quality is managed according to Portuguese legislation (Decreto-Lei 135/2009). Short-term pollution events are unlikely but may occur during heavy precipitation or in case of upstream sanitation infrastructure failures.
