Plage d'Argent is a 500 meter long sandy beach located on Porquerolles Island in Hyères, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The beach has a northeast orientation and is in an open configuration. It experiences high visitor frequency and is managed as a concession beach by the Métropole. The beach is used primarily for swimming and benefits from excellent water quality classification as of 2022.

Location

Hyères, Porquerolles Island, Var department, France. Coordinates: N 43°00'15.3" - E 6°11'17.8". Access by pedestrian pathway. No parking available on-site. Disabled access is available, as are disabled water entry facilities.

Facilities

Rescue post with 2 lifeguards. Accessible toilets for disabled persons (WC PMR). Accessible showers. Drinking water point. Restaurants available. No animal access. No parking. Bins for household waste.

Season

Monitoring period: 1 July to 31 August. Daily monitoring: 10:30 to 18:30.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2022). Monitoring by the French health authority (ARS) under Directive 2006/7/CE. No microbiological pollution recorded in 2019, 2021, or 2022. No chemical pollution recorded in 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022. No biological pollution recorded in 2020 or subsequent years. Preventive closures occurred on 4 June 2020 and 28 June 2022 due to adverse weather conditions; testing confirmed no contamination.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified: discharge of contaminated water from Porquerolles port (medium risk in dry conditions), bacterial pollution from rainwater collectors and channels due to street runoff (low risk), discharge of black water from mooring zone (low risk). These sources are managed through monitoring and crisis protocols.
