Porto Canale Cesenatico Nord is a sandy beach bathing area in the Emilia-Romagna region extending from Viale Cabral to the north pier of Cesenatico Canal. The beach is protected by a low-crested breakwater approximately 700 metres long and situated about 200 metres from shore. The beach is 10–90 metres wide and characterized by irregular seabed with depths exceeding 5 metres in some areas. The zone is heavily frequented for tourism with numerous hotels and beach facilities.

Water

Coastal marine water in a flat alluvial area with high stability. The seabed has an irregular profile with a depression exceeding 5 metres depth at the low-crested breakwater head. Beach width ranges from 10–90 metres. Area extends 1.813 km². Coordinates: centre X=12.39484165° Y=44.21340513°.

Location

Cesenatico, Forlì-Cesena Province, Emilia-Romagna. The bathing area extends from the perpendicular extension of Viale Cabral to the north pier of Cesenatico Canal.

19 beach establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food service points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2015–2018 reference years). Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 44 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 61 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 10 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 10 CFU/100 ml. No direct discharges or watercourses deliver into the bathing water. No pollution sources identified within the bathing area.

Risks

The mouth of Cesenatico Canal is located at the southern boundary of the bathing area. During intense precipitation, any discharges present in the canal may be activated and reach the sea near the bathing water. Potential eutrophication may occur from the canal outlet. Macroalgae proliferation of the genus Ulva was recorded in July–August 2018 in the central-northern coastal section, modifying bathing conditions during biomass accumulation. No phytoplankton bloom events of Fibrocapsa japonica were recorded 2015–2018. No cyanobacterial eutrophic phenomena have been reported.
