Porto Canale Cesenatico Sud is a sandy beach located in Cesenatico, Emilia-Romagna, extending from the southern pier of Cesenatico Canal to the perpendicular extension of Piazza G. Marconi. The beach is protected by a series of parallel emerged breakwaters spaced approximately 20 meters apart and averaging 90 meters in length. The beach is 120–130 meters wide and characterized by irregular seabed with tombolo formations at the breakwaters and depressions between them. It is a highly touristic area with numerous hotels and beach establishments.

Coastal marine water. Sandy beach with parallel emerged breakwaters. Seabed has irregular morphology with depths approximately 4–4.5 meters behind the breakwaters. Area extends 1.803 km. Beach width 120–130 meters. No rivers or direct discharges into the water profile.

Location

Cesenatico, Forlì-Cesena Province, Emilia-Romagna region. The beach extends from Porto Canale di Cesenatico molo Sud to the perpendicular extension of Piazza G. Marconi. Coordinates: center X=12.41044313°, Y=44.20152975°.

Facilities

50 beach establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, and absence of architectural barriers. Sports facilities and food service points available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 104 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile: 167 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 90th percentile: 22 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile: 27 CFU/100 ml. No direct discharge points or pollution sources identified in the bathing area.

Risks

Potential pollution events during intense precipitation due to activation of drainage systems in Porto Canale di Cesenatico located at the northern boundary of the bathing area. Phytoplankton blooms of Fibrocapsa japonica not reported during 2015–2018. Macroalgae blooms (Ulva genus) occurred during July–August 2018 in the central-northern coastal section, causing modifications to beach usability. Potential eutrophication from Porto Canale outlets.
