Punta Tagliamento is a sandy beach located on a peninsula in a heavily urbanised coastal and lagoon area near Lignano in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2015–2018, with consistently low levels of faecal indicator bacteria. The beach is characterised by nearby urban settlements and maritime works.

Location

Lignano, Udine Province, Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Coordinates: 45.648257°N, 13.104231°E. The bathing area extends 0.63 km along the coast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018, based on D.Lgs 116/08). Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 22 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile 26 CFU/100 ml. Enterococci: 90th percentile 15 CFU/100 ml, 95th percentile 22 CFU/100 ml. No variation in water quality status observed across bathing seasons 2015–2018. No cyanobacterial blooms or toxic algal species have been detected. No elevated concentrations of potentially toxic species were found in the last four years.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events may occur during intense rainfall and increased discharge from the Tagliamento River, which can transport microbial presence from urban runoff into the sea. No such events were recorded during 2015–2018.
