These are coastal bathing beaches along the English Channel in Normandy, France. The area is subject to tidal regimes and experiences wave action characteristic of the Channel coast.

Location

The bathing beaches are located in the Dieppe Maritime agglomeration area in Normandy, France. The profile covers seven specific beaches: Saint-Aubin-sur-mer, Quiberville, Sainte-Marguerite-sur-mer, Pourville (Hautot-sur-mer), Dieppe-plage, Dieppe-Puys, and Saint-Martin-en-Campagne.

Season

Monitoring points were established for the bathing season (saison balnéaire).

Water Quality

Bacteriological water quality monitoring was conducted at all seven beaches. Water quality assessments included monitoring of Enterococci and E. coli. Blue Flag designation was analyzed for certain beaches. Shellfish farming areas (moules) were monitored for bacterial quality at Bracquemont, Sainte-Marguerite-sur-mer/Vasterival, and Penly.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include wastewater treatment systems, agricultural activities, livestock operations, industrial activities including agri-food industries, meat processing (équarrissage), the Penly nuclear power plant, thalassotherapy center in Dieppe, waste management facilities, seabird populations, Dieppe port operations, and karst circulation. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential was assessed. Amoeba presence was studied.
