Coastal bathing area connected to the Veules River, a naturally-flowing watercourse with an artificialised lower course. The river enters the sea at Veules Les Roses.

Location

Veules Les Roses commune, Normandy coast region, France. The study area includes both eastern and western beach zones adjacent to the Veules River mouth.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored by the ARS (Regional Health Authority) using E. coli and enterococci as indicator parameters. Quality data covers a seven-year monitoring period. Monitoring results are analysed for both dry weather and rainfall conditions. Pollution sources identified include domestic wastewater (46% estimated pollution from defective connections), wastewater treatment plant discharges, agricultural activities, animal waste, and rainwater runoff.

Bacterial contamination from multiple sources including defective sewerage connections, treatment plant discharges, agricultural practices, bird droppings, animal faeces, and rainwater runoff. Water quality is affected by dry weather and rainfall conditions differently.
