Råå vallar is a long sandy beach with shallow water in Öresund, located in southern Helsingborg. The beach features several concrete piers, an accessibility-adapted bathing ramp, a bathing platform, playground, toilets, showers, and grilling areas. Lifeguards monitor the beach during June, July, and August. Daily water quality can be followed on Badvatten.se with forecasts available.

Öresund. Sandy beach and sandy bottom with shallow water. Low resuspension occurrence along the coastline.

Location

Southern Helsingborg, Öresund. The bathing area is a long, shallow sandy beach adjacent to the Knähaken marine nature reserve.

Water Quality

2025: Excellent quality. 2024: Good quality. 2023: Excellent quality. 2022: Satisfactory quality. Generically elevated bacterial levels were investigated from spring 2016 onwards. Increased sampling frequency has been conducted since summer 2017. A bathing water forecast with accompanying app was launched for the 2017 bathing season, based on rainfall and current data, previous years' samples, weather forecasts, overflow data, and flow data from NSVA. Between 2019 and 2025, the site participated in the Urban bathing research project investigating bottom sediment impact on bathing water in combination with resuspension and real-time water measurement.

Risks

Southward currents during heavy rainfall can occasionally bring contaminated water from Helsingborg treatment plant. Northward currents can bring pollution from Råå river. Bottom sediment can retain bacteria and affect bathing water through resuspension.
