Ramsgate Sands is a sandy resort beach with a promenade between the Royal Harbour and marina at the south and the white chalk cliffs to the north. Along the seafront promenade there are a range of resort facilities.

Risks

Ramsgate Sands bathing water could be affected by discharges from storm overflows that can occur when heavy rainfall overwhelms the sewerage system. The Winterstoke storm overflow is at the north of the beach and the Westcliff Pumping Station storm overflow is at the south west corner of the harbour. There are also storm overflows in Pegwell Bay and the River Stour Estuary. All these outfalls are designed to protect bathing water compliance.
