Riccione - Foce Marano 50 m S is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Riccione in the Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 300 metres along the coast. The beach borders the right embankment of the Marano river to the north and is not protected by cliffs. It is a high-traffic tourist area with numerous hotels, bathing establishments, sanitary facilities, and constant lifeguard service during the bathing season.

Coastal marine water in the centre-southern coastal area. The bathing area extends 0.307 km and covers a sandy beach approximately 100–120 metres wide. The water body is classified as a flat alluvial coastal water with high stability.

Location

Riccione, Rimini province, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The bathing area is situated 50 metres south of the Marano river mouth. Seven bathing establishments operate in the area, each with first aid services and sanitary facilities.

Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 45 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 61 CFU/100 ml. No direct water courses or sea discharges flow into the bathing water profile.

Risks

Heavy rainfall can activate storm overflow discharge systems in the sewage network and pumping stations, causing excess flow into the Marano Torrent, whose waters discharge into the sea near the bathing area. The Marano Torrent mouth is located north of the bathing area and receives discharge from the Riccione wastewater treatment plant. Potential pollution sources include the treatment plant bypass and the discharge point known as 'Casella nera'. Macroalgae blooms may alter conditions during biomass accumulation phases. Eutrophication phenomena may occur due to proximity of the Marano Torrent mouth.
