Riccione - Porto Canale 100m S is a sandy beach located in the municipality of Riccione in the Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 300 metres. The beach is not protected by cliffs and borders the Riccione port area to the north. It is a high-traffic tourism zone with numerous hotels and beach facilities, supported by constant lifeguard services during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal marine water in a flat alluvial area with high stability. The bathing area extends over 0.311 km. No watercourses discharge into this bathing water area.

Location

Riccione, Rimini province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area borders the Riccione port area to the north. Beach width varies between 80 and 100 metres.

Facilities

Eight beach establishments with first aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, removal of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and refreshment points.

Season

Bathing season with lifeguard services during the summer season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2019–2022). Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 118 CFU/100 ml; 95th percentile: 186 CFU/100 ml. Enterococci intestinali 90th percentile: 63 CFU/100 ml; 95th percentile: 93 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 with an exceedance of Escherichia coli beyond the legal limit, which was classified by the European Commission as an anomalous situation.

Risks

The Torrente Melo stream and Riccione port area are located north of the bathing area. During intense rainfall, stormwater overflows from sewerage networks may discharge excess flow into Rio Melo, whose waters flow into Riccione Port Canal and discharge to sea near the bathing water. The Rio Melo terminal section contains discharge points including a pumping station called 'Castrocaro'. The presence of Rio Melo and the Riccione port may originate eutrophication phenomena. No algal blooms sustained by cyanobacteria have been reported in the past four years. No phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae blooms were recorded between 2019 and 2022.
