Rimini - Foce Marecchia 50 m S is a sandy beach located in Rimini, Emilia-Romagna, extending approximately 400 metres. The beach is bordered to the north by the Marecchia River embankment and to the south by the Rimini Canal Port dock. It is a high-tourism area with numerous hotels and beach facilities, and maintains a constant lifeguard service during the bathing season.

Water

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. The area covers 0.628 square kilometres. The bathing zone is located between the Marecchia River mouth and the Rimini Canal Port.

Location

Located in the municipality of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna province. The beach is situated between the mouth of the Marecchia River to the north and the Rimini Canal Port to the south. Beach width varies from 110–120 metres.

Facilities

Four beach facilities with first aid services, toilets adapted for disabled persons, hot showers, accessible infrastructure without architectural barriers, sports structures, and food outlets. Lifeguard service is present during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Good for the period 2021–2024. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 256 CFU/100ml; 95th percentile: 409 CFU/100ml. Enterococci intestinali 90th percentile: 47 CFU/100ml; 95th percentile: 64 CFU/100ml. No direct water course or sea discharge impacts the bathing profile area. An anomalous situation occurred on 26 July 2022 when Escherichia coli exceeded the legal limit, resulting in a temporary bathing prohibition lifted on 29 July 2022.

Risks

During intense precipitation, the Marecchia River can convey pollutants from soil runoff to the sea. Overflow dischargers from sewage networks and pumping stations can discharge excess flow into the Marecchia River. The river receives wastewater treatment plant discharge from Rimini Santa Giustina in its lower reach. No cyanobacterial bloom events have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton or macroalgae bloom events have been recorded for the period 2020–2023.
