Water

The Aguascebas River is a mineralized lowland Mediterranean river. The river section is single and meandering with gravel and sand bars. The riverbed substrate consists of gravels and silts of fluvial origin. Average annual discharge is 461.17 m³/h. Summer season discharge is 173.81 m³/h. Environmental flow is 1.11 m³/s. The four-year return period discharge is 4 m³/s. The embalsed water volume in the bathing zone is 1600 m³, with an average daily renewal time of 3.46 hours annually and 9.20 hours during summer.

Location

The bathing zone is located in Mogón, accessed from Villacarrillo via road A-6204, in the center of the village. The site is at an altitude of 435 metres with UTM coordinates 497446 / 4214187 (datum ED 50). Parking is not available.

Facilities

Available facilities include trash bins and a concrete platform with paving stones. The following are not available: parking, rescue posts, informational signs, bars or chiringuitos, rest areas, toilets, showers, swimming pools, boat ramps, recreational zones, or water fountains. Domestic animal access status is not specified.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as compliant with imperative values according to Real Decreto 734/1988 during the 2008-2009 monitoring period. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations were monitored during 2008 and 2009 seasons. Fecal contamination monitoring from 2003-2009 showed periodic variations in water quality classification. The main pollution sources identified include user self-contamination from bathing, livestock runoff from cattle (23 heads), sheep (630 heads), goats (42 heads), pigs (5 heads), and horses (22 heads), and potential accidental or illegal discharges.

Risks

Potential short-duration contamination risks include user self-contamination, livestock-origin runoff, accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, organic waste, and sediment or sludge remobilization. Health risk from intestinal enterococci concentrations above 1000 UFC/100ml exists depending on water discharge rates.
