Location

Palavas-les-Flots, located in the Pays de l'Or agglomeration in southern France. The three beaches are Saint Maurice, le Grec, and la Roquille.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified under the 2006 directive. Bacteriological quality is monitored by beach. Quality varies seasonally and is influenced by rainfall events, wind patterns, and proximity to discharge sources including wastewater treatment plant effluent, storm overflow discharges, and river inputs.

Risks

Potential contamination sources include wastewater treatment discharge, storm overflow systems, non-collective sanitation, rainfall runoff, port activities, and camping facilities. Rainfall events significantly impact water quality. Macro-algae proliferation potential, phytoplankton proliferation potential, and cyanobacteria proliferation potential have been studied. Jellyfish invasion episodes are documented.
