Roc'h Kroum is a sandy beach in the municipality of Roscoff with a semi-open configuration, meaning pollutants tend to persist longer in the bathing zone. The beach is located in an area with weak topography and low slopes on the immediate perimeter. Urbanization in the immediate vicinity has reduced soil permeability, making bathing water quality more susceptible to stormwater runoff impacts.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as good to medium between 2005 and 2010 under Directive 76/160/CEE. Under the new classification method of Directive 2006/7/CE, the beach would have been classified as good quality in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Bacterial contamination risks identified from stormwater and sewage systems, non-compliant individual sanitation installations, human frequentation, and birds. Non-bacterial pollution from macroalgae (ulva) with identified risk despite limited accumulation.

Bacterial contamination from stormwater outlets near the bathing zone, potential raw effluent discharge from the Lagadennou pumping station if malfunctioning, non-compliant individual sanitation installations in the immediate perimeter, human-related pollution, bird droppings, and macroalgae (ulva) accumulation.
