Saint Fortunat

France Lake 1 - Excellent

The Flavignac bathing water is located in the Haute-Vienne department at 400 metres altitude. It is also known as the Saint Fortunat lake. The western portion of the water body is designated for bathing, with an artificial sandy beach surrounded by a grassy beach area. The bathing zone measures 70 metres in length with a maximum width of 30 metres, and a small basin of 30 by 10 metres. Bathing and fishing activities coexist at this site.

Water

Freshwater lake with a surface area of approximately 53,140 square metres. Maximum depth of approximately 4 metres in the main basin with an average depth of 2 metres. The small basin has a maximum depth of 1.8 metres in the main bathing area and 0.8 metres in the small basin. The lake bed and beach are sandy. Water temperature averages 19.1°C in July and 0.3°C in January, with an annual average of 11.2°C.

Location

Flavignac commune, Haute-Vienne department, Limousin region, France. Coordinates: longitude 01°05'43"E, latitude 45°42'11"N. Four information panels are located at the cardinal points of the lake at different access points.

Facilities

Lifeguard post. Showers. Toilets. Point of drinking water. Surveillance from Tuesday to Sunday, 13:30 to 19:00, closed Mondays. Not accessible to persons with reduced mobility.

Season

01 July to 31 August.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological analyses track total coliforms, enterococci, and E. coli. Cyanobacteria episodes have been detected and documented since 2007. Secchi transparency has been measured since 2006.

Risks

Cyanobacteria episodes have been identified. The site is not accessible to persons with reduced mobility.
