Finland Lake 1 - Excellent

Säläisjärven uimaranta is a lake bathing beach in Jurva, Finland, featuring a sandy bottom and naturally shaped shoreline approximately 100 metres long with gradually deepening water to a maximum depth of 3.5 metres. The area is developed as a park with changing rooms, showers, toilets, a rescue boat, life rings, waste bins, parking, and a beach volleyball court. The beach is used by an estimated 0–600 visitors daily depending on weather conditions.

Water

Lake. Säläisjärvi is a shallow lake with maximum depth of approximately 3.5 metres. The water body has a sandy bottom. pH 6.9 (measured 6.8.2013).

Location

Located in Jurva at Kauhajoentie 273, 66300 Jurva. Parking area available on-site. Coordinates: EUREF FIN X 62.6637, Y 21.9844.

Facilities

Changing rooms (2 with showers), toilets (separate for men and women), dock, rescue boat, life rings, waste bins (4), beach volleyball court, parking area.

Season

Official monitoring period: 15 June to 31 August. Water quality sampled once approximately two weeks before the season and three times during the season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on monitoring results from 2016–2019 and 2021–2023. Enterococci and E. coli testing conducted. 2024 results: Enterococci <2–55 CFU/100 ml; E. coli 0–24 CFU/100 ml. No cyanobacteria observations recorded. No harmful algae or macrophyte growth detected.

Risks

Warm and calm weather may promote algal blooms, though such occurrences have not been observed in recent years. Heavy rainfall may affect water clarity. Broken glass and debris are possible but reduced by pre-season diving survey and regular beach maintenance. Dogs are prohibited on the beach.
