Saltsjöbaden

Saltsjöbaden is a approximately 1 km long sandy beach with fine-grained sand located just east of Ystad. The bathing area features several fixed bathing piers extending into the water. Hotel Ystad Saltsjöbad with restaurant, spa, and conference facilities is adjacent to the beach. A children's playground and parking spaces are available nearby.

Water

Sandy beach approximately 1 km long with fine-grained sand. The beach is part of the Östra sydkustens kustvatten (Eastern south coast coastal water). The beach is bordered inland by a beach ridge with a bicycle and pedestrian path.

Location

Just east of Ystad. Parking spaces are available. Toilet facilities are available from April to October near the parking area.

Facilities

Fixed bathing piers, lifeguard stations (frälsarkransar), toilet facilities (April to October), playground, parking spaces, spa and conference facilities, restaurant.

Season

21 June 2026 to 20 August 2026. Algae warning in effect.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (Utmärkt kvalitet) for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. The nearest stormwater discharge point is approximately 750 m west of the bathing area. No other specific potential pollution sources have been identified.

Risks

Strong currents can occur during onshore and offshore winds. Ferry traffic between Ystad and Bornholm can cause wave surges. High numbers of swimmers may increase the risk of bacterial transmission in the water. Beach erosion is addressed through periodic sand replenishment from Sandhammaren.
