Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012. No short-term pollution episodes occurred during the bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include diffuse fecal contamination from surrounding urban activities, solid waste from beach activities, marine litter, and bird colonies. Cyanobacteria and macroalgae have unlikely potential for proliferation; phytoplankton has likely potential for proliferation.

Risks

In case of pollution affecting water quality, bathing may be advised against or prohibited. An alert system is in place to verify water quality and inform bathers of necessary measures if quality changes occur.
