Water

Coastal marine water on the Atlantic Ocean. The zone is characterized by tidal currents with maximum velocities in neap and spring tides. The area has multiple waterways including the Auzance and Vertonne rivers that discharge near the beaches.

Location

Olonne-sur-Mer, Vendée department, France. The beaches are Des Granges and De Sauveterre.

Water Quality

Water quality has been monitored since 2006 through bacteriological analysis. Quality classifications are assessed according to current and future regulations. Monitoring networks include ARS (bathing water quality), REMI (microbiological control network for shellfish production zones), and REPHY (phytoplankton and phycotoxin surveillance network).

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include the Auzance and Vertonne watercourses, collective sanitation systems with wastewater discharge points, stormwater networks, and non-collective sanitation systems. Macroalgae proliferation potential has been assessed. Risk analysis considered dry weather and rainfall scenarios (10mm/1h).
