Shkorpilovtsi Central Beach is a very wide beach with fine-grained sand located in northeastern Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast. The beach stretches 2,500 meters along the shoreline in a flat terrain with forests and fields. The area is part of the Kamchiya Biosphere Reserve, known for its rare flora and fauna including centuries-old riparian forests.

Water

Sea water body (Black Sea). The bathing water is identified as BG2000 (Black Sea Basin Area). Major rivers discharging into the water body include Shkorpilovska River, Vaya River, and Dvoynitsa River.

Location

Located near the village of Shkorpilovtsi in the Dolni Chiflik municipality, Varna region, northeastern Bulgaria. The beach is accessible by personal and public transport. Nearest natural landmark is Cherni nos (Karaboran), a 80-meter high mountain forming the northernmost point of the Stara Planina range where it meets the Black Sea.

Facilities

3 lifeguard posts, 4 sanitary facilities, showers, changing rooms, 2 medical posts. Part of the beach area is unguarded.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent from 2007-2016 and 2020-2021; good water quality in 2017-2019. All monitoring years from 2007-2014 compliant with guide values. Shkorpilovska River and Dvoynitsa River discharge moderately to slightly polluted waters (category II-III) into the Black Sea with negligible effect on marine water quality. A local wastewater treatment plant was constructed in 2014 with capacity of 1,000 population equivalents.

Risks

Shkorpilovska River discharges into the zone. One instance of ammonia nitrogen emission limit exceeded in 2016 monitoring. Rivers Shkorpilovska and Dvoynitsa have low water discharge volumes.
