Kamchiya Plazh Romantika is a sea bathing water located on the Black Sea coast near the mouth of the Kamchiya River in northeastern Bulgaria. The beach features a very wide sandy strip with fine-grained sand. It is situated within the Kamchiya Biosphere Reserve, an area of significant ecological importance designated in 1951 to protect the largest centuries-old riparian forest in Bulgaria. The beach is unguarded and accessible by personal and public transport.

Water

Sea water body (Black Sea). The Kamchiya River flows into the sea at this location. The bathing water is identified as BG3310104426003018 within the Black Sea Basin Area.

Location

Located in Bliznatsi Commune, Avren Municipality, Varna Region, northeastern Bulgaria. The beach is positioned directly on the Black Sea coast near the mouth of the Kamchiya River. The beach strip is 2800 metres long with accessible terrain and access by personal and public transport.

Facilities

The beach is unguarded. Visitor numbers range from 800–1500 people.

Season

Official monitoring season includes measurements from June through September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification from 2007–2021: Excellent (2007–2009, 2012, 2014–2016, 2021); Good or Sufficient/Mandatory values (2010–2011, 2013); Good (2017–2020). The bathing water is compliant with both guide and mandatory values. Potential contamination source identified: the Kamchiya River, particularly from the Kamchiya wastewater treatment plant which discharges treated effluent into the river. Monitoring results from 2016 showed exceedance of BOD₅ parameter in treated wastewater discharge.

Risks

Potential contamination from the Kamchiya River and the Kamchiya wastewater treatment plant discharge. The treatment plant operates with aged and energy-intensive equipment and cannot reduce total phosphorus and total nitrogen parameters.
