Mattinata, province of Foggia, Puglia region. The bathing area covers 1.892 km.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No sewage discharge outlets or watercourse mouths present. No short-term pollution events recorded in the preceding four years.

Risks

Dinoflagellate microalga Ostreopsis ovata blooms occur seasonally from July to September. These blooms have caused mortality and stress in marine organisms including starfish, sea urchins, crabs, and cephalopod molluscs. Bathers have experienced temporary ailments including rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, fever, dermatitis, and conjunctivitis during periods of elevated Ostreopsis ovata concentration, particularly following storms that generate marine aerosols facilitating toxin dispersal.
