Location

Riace, Calabria, Italy. The bathing area is located in front of the inhabited centre of Riace. Information regarding parking and specific facilities awaits confirmation from municipal authorities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent. The water body is known as Caulonia Riace. A biological wastewater treatment plant with activated sludge process operates at Riace (Saline location). Identified pollution sources include the mouth of Torrente Riace and the mouth of Vallone Nescilacqua. Short-duration pollution events have been characterised as surface runoff and accidental treatment plant failures with overflow. Pollution sources include agricultural areas, urban areas, and the treatment plant at Riace (Saline location).

Risks

No algal blooms or cyanobacterial proliferation have been recorded in the sea and inland waters over the past 4 years. No anomalous situations have occurred.
