Suave Mar is an urban beach located in Esposende with an extensive sandy area stretching to the mouth of the Cávado river and a well-established dune system.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). No days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive flow from tributary streams during rainfall, leading to transport of microbiological load. Faecal contamination may originate mainly from the Cávado river and Redonda creek. Cyanobacteria have a moderate proliferation potential with a history of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton have low proliferation potential with no history of occurrence.
