Testene is a sandy beach in Agropoli, Salerno Province, with intense urbanization in the settlement area. The coast is defended by artificial structures including breakwaters with boulders positioned along the beaches, separated from the mouth of the Testene River.

Sandy beach coastline with artificial coastal defense structures (breakwater barriers with boulders). The Testene River mouth is located at the western side of the monitoring area.

Location

Agropoli, Salerno Province, Campania Region. The bathing water area is located along the sandy coastline of Agropoli.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2020–2023). Wastewater treatment: Urban biological treatment plant with active sludge located at Taverne. Discharge occurs in the Testene River from 1 October to 31 March and via submarine pipeline from 1 April to 30 September.

Risks

Possible pollution sources identified: overflow on west side (LAT 40.356656, LONG 14.996865), sewage lifting station 'Hotel Mare' on west side (LAT 40.355208, LONG 14.996078), Testene River mouth in immediate vicinity of monitoring point (LAT 40.354603°N, LONG 14.995690°E), overflow on west side (LAT 40.354655, LONG 14.995334). Potential breakage of submarine pipeline from the municipal treatment plant at Taverne.
