Torre S. Marco is a sandy bathing beach located in Agropoli, in the Campania region of Italy. The beach features sparse urbanization along the shore, with a low coastline characterized by agricultural areas to the north and the mouth of the Solofrone River. The beach has been classified as excellent quality for water based on monitoring data from 2020-2023.

Location

Agropoli, province of Salerno, Campania region. The monitoring point is located at coordinates LAT 40.375180 LONG 15.000907 (western side). The municipality of Agropoli is situated at Piazza Repubblica 3, CAP 84043.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on 2020-2021-2022-2023 monitoring data according to Legislative Decree 116/2008). Urban wastewater treatment plant of biological type with active sludge system located in Taverne district, discharging to the Testene River from October 1 to March 31 and via submarine pipeline from April 1 to September 30.

Risks

Identified potential pollution sources include: the mouth of the Solofrone River on the west side, sewage lifting station 'Scogliera' on the west side, sewage lifting station 'Darsena' on the east side, multiple overflow points on both west and east sides, and potential breaks in the submarine pipeline connected to the Taverne treatment plant.
