Tonel is a coastal bathing water located on a golden sand beach situated in a bay on the Algarve coast. The beach is surrounded by grooved limestone cliffs and is part of the Natural Park of Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina and a Natura 2000 site, with restricted use due to association with sensitive natural systems. The beach front extends 250 meters with a tidal range of 3.4–3.5 meters and typical wave heights of 1 meter, with predominant northwesterly winds.
