Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Unterschleißheimer See is a recreational lake located in Unterschleißheim, Bavaria, created between 1979 and 1980 through gravel extraction for the A92 motorway construction. The lake sits within the Dachauer Moos landscape protection area and features a compensation zone with protected biotope along its southeastern shore. The recreational area encompasses 174,000 square metres with diverse facilities and amenities.

Water

The lake has a water surface area of 79,000 square metres with a shoreline of 800 metres. Water depth reaches approximately 14 metres. The lake is fed by groundwater sources and has a natural outlet.

Location

Furtweg 92, 85716 Unterschleißheim. Parking available at Furtweg with 336 spaces for cars (5 disabled spaces, 15 motorcycle spaces) and on the eastern side with 170 car spaces plus 145 reserve spaces. Parking fee of 2.50 euros per car and 1.50 euros per motorcycle applies from 1 May to 30 September.

Restaurant with beer garden (closed during winter months); accessible toilets during bathing season; water rescue station with boathouse and vehicle garage; emergency call column with public defibrillator; toilet facilities in northwest corner; sand playground with play equipment; table tennis tables; two beach volleyball courts on north side; grilling zone; lifeguard station.

Season

Monitoring conducted from May to September. Bathing season facilities and paid parking operate from 1 May to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on measurements from 2021 to 2024. Monitoring data from May to September 2025 shows consistently bacteriologically unobjectionable results. Escherichia coli levels ranged from less than 10 to 21 KBE/100 ml. Enterococci levels ranged from less than 10 to 10 KBE/100 ml. Water temperature ranged from 13.7 to 25.0 degrees Celsius.

Risks

Parasites (cercariae) may cause itching skin rash (swimmer's dermatitis). Cyanobacteria may multiply under certain conditions, and toxins produced by some cyanobacteria at elevated concentrations can pose health risks to humans and animals.
