Location

Garchinger See is situated in the northwest of Garching city. Parking is available in the immediate vicinity at the large sports park.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on monitoring results from 2021 to 2024. All bacteriological assessments from May through September 2025 show no objections. Escherichia coli values ranged from less than 10 to 122 KBE/100 ml, and Enterococci values ranged from less than 10 to 98 KBE/100 ml. Water temperatures ranged from 15.7 to 24.0 degrees Celsius.

Risks

Swimming bans are imposed if fecal contamination is detected that poses health risks, if Escherichia coli exceeds 1,800 KBE/100 ml or Intestinal Enterococci exceeds 700 KBE/100 ml in confirmed tests, or if algae concentrations present a health hazard. Bans are communicated with clearly visible signs at the bathing area.
