Vale de Janelas is a long sandy beach surrounded by dunes in the municipality of Óbidos. The beach has good support infrastructure and is widely used for bodyboarding. The bathing water is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012.

Water Quality

Water quality classification established in 2020. Contamination risk is very low based on historical water quality data. Potential microbiological pollution may originate from the tributary stream during intense rainfall events, but such occurrences are very rare. No days of bathing advisory or prohibition due to short-term pollution were recorded in the 2020 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution events may occur due to excessive discharge from the tributary stream following rainfall, but such events are unlikely to last more than 1 to 2 days. Proliferation of cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton is unlikely.
