Water

Freshwater pond (plan d'eau) in the Ise valley with a surface area of 2.8 hectares. The pond is situated on a spring and is primarily fed by groundwater. The immediate slopes of the pond contribute to feeding through surface runoff. The drainage catchment area is approximately 20 hectares.

Location

Commune of Brie, Ille-et-Vilaine, 20 km south of Rennes. The pond is located northeast of the village centre, bordered to the north by departmental road 48 and to the south by the Ise river. Direct access to the beach is available from a parking area on the northwest side of the pond.

Facilities

Lifeguards (July and August afternoons), dry toilets, picnic area, children's play area, footpaths around the pond (accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs), walking trails and mountain bike circuits, green theatre (theatre of verdure).

Season

Swimming is authorized and supervised from late June to mid-August, from 13:30 to 19:00. Swimming is prohibited outside these hours and outside the designated swimming perimeter.

Water Quality

Confirmed risk of cyanobacteria proliferation with algal blooms documented in July 2013. The pond is part of the Seiche river basin water mass. A territorial contract signed on 10 June 2013 includes water quality improvement actions over a 5-year period, with the objective of restoring good ecological status by 2027. Monitoring and studies have been conducted on sediments, microalgae, water quality, and upstream watershed conditions. The upstream Ise river is identified as an exporter of nutrients.

Risks

Cyanobacteria proliferation is an identified and confirmed risk. Algal blooms were observed in July 2013. The site is subject to potential bacterial contamination risks in the beach vicinity.
