Velniakalnio tvenkinys is a bathing water body located in the Rokiškio district of Panevėžys county, Lithuania. The beach features a natural shoreline with grass and sand, spanning 150 meters in length. The bathing area has a maximum capacity of approximately 100 people during peak season under favorable weather conditions. Water quality from 2022 to 2024 met excellent quality requirements.

Water

Artificial non-overflowing pond. Average water depth up to 1.5 meters with maximum depth up to 3 meters. The water body is part of the Nemunėlio sub-basin (Lielupė river basin). Average annual precipitation in the basin is 749 mm, with rainfall of 590.6 mm in the impact zone.

Location

Located in Rokiškio municipality, Panevėžys county, Lithuania. The beach is administered by the Rokiškio district municipality public health specialist.

Facilities

Showers and toilets available. Volleyball court, tennis court, children's play area with equipment, exercise equipment, and benches. A sign in the water prohibits dogs from swimming within a 10-meter radius. Waste management includes general and sorting containers with waste collection and removal arranged by Rokiškio municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent quality from 2020 to 2024. No concentrated pollution sources identified in the impact zone. No dispersed pollution sources identified. No other surface water bodies upstream identified as pollution sources. No cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton detected. Eutrophication impact on water quality could result from natural or human activity causes.

Risks

Short-term pollution was identified on August 28, 2023, based on microbiological testing that did not meet Lithuanian hygiene standard HN 92:2018 requirements for beach and bathing water quality.
