Vyžuonos ežeras is a bathing lake located in Rokiškio district, Lithuania. The lake has semi-natural shorelines with muddy and sandy sediments. The beach extends approximately 100 meters with an average water depth of 1.5 meters and a maximum depth of 2 meters. The lake is situated in the Nemunėlio sub-basin within the Lielupės river basin district. Water quality has met excellent quality standards from 2018 to 2024.

Water

Lake (Vyžuonos ežeras) in the Nemunėlio sub-basin. Average water depth: 1.5 meters. Maximum water depth: 2 meters. Beach length: 100 meters. Sediment composition: predominantly mud and sand. Semi-natural shoreline structure. Low, marshy banks. Annual average discharge in the basin: 3.65 cubic meters per second. Average annual precipitation in the catchment: 749 millimeters.

Location

Vyžuonos ežeras is located in Rokiškio district, Panevėžio county, Lithuania. Vyžuonos village is situated on the north-western shore of the lake. Coordinates: X=56.0281, Y=25.6423. Public beach access is available. Maximum capacity is approximately 50 people during peak summer conditions.

Facilities

Two toilets available. Volleyball court on the beach. Waste management: six waste bins with 100-liter disposable bags, emptied daily during the season by Rokiškio rural municipality administration. Information board present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (puiki kokybė) from 2018 to 2024 according to Directive 2006/7/EB standards. Water transparency monitoring has been conducted. Temporary pollution recorded on 16 June 2023 and 2 August 2023 due to microbiological contamination from wild duck populations. Testing revealed non-compliance with Lithuanian hygiene standard HN 92:2018 during these incidents. No permanent point pollution sources identified in the impact zone. No dispersed pollution sources identified in the impact zone.

Risks

Temporary pollution possible during heavy rainfall; pollution typically dissipates within 1-2 days after rain ends. Wild duck populations present on lake shores may cause microbiological contamination. No studies conducted on blue-green algae, large algae, or marine phytoplankton distribution.
