Water Quality

Water quality is classified using four quality classes: excellent, good, sufficient, and poor. Long-term quality assessment is based on four-year monitoring data using statistical analysis. Quality evaluation includes microbiological indicators: E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Operational assessment is conducted after each sampling event. Swimming is allowed when water quality meets regulatory requirements. Swimming is not recommended when E. coli exceeds 1000 but does not exceed 3000 cells per 100 ml and/or intestinal enterococci exceed 300 but do not exceed 500 cells per 100 ml. Swimming is prohibited when E. coli exceeds 3000 cells per 100 ml and/or intestinal enterococci exceed 500 cells per 100 ml. Excessive cyanobacterial blooms also prohibit swimming.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms (algal blooms) are potential risks. Faecal pollution from wastewater is assessed as a risk factor. Point source pollution and diffuse pollution from surrounding land use activities are identified as concerns.
