A sandy beach located in Francavilla al Mare, Abruzzo, with sand comprising over 98% of the beach composition and medium granulometry. The beach is 40 metres wide and is surrounded by numerous urban settlements and tourism-related structures. The water body is classified as excellent quality. The area experiences significant population growth during the summer season.

Coastal water body of medium stability in the Tronto-Riccio water body system. The beach is sandy with a mean granulometry (D50) of 0.394 mm and no dune formations.

Via F.P. Tosti, corner of via Cattaro, Francavilla al Mare, Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. Postal code 66023. The bathing area extends 1.750 kilometres.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. The water body is monitored under the eighth annual reporting cycle, with profile updates and reviews scheduled for 2025.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include river mouths and wastewater discharge systems. The Francavilla al Mare treatment facilities consist of two operational plants discharging via submarine conduits up to 2,000 metres offshore. No cyanobacterial blooms have been detected in waters adjacent to the Abruzzo area. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation events have not been recorded; historical data from previous years document occasional dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or absent toxic species.
