Zona Ant. Piazza Sirena is a sandy beach in Francavilla al Mare in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The beach has a sand composition exceeding 99% with medium granulometry and no dune formations. The beach width is 40 metres and is situated within a coastal area with urban developments and tourism infrastructure. The area is located in the basins of the Foro and Alento rivers.

Risks

River mouth discharges identified as sources of pollution. Two wastewater treatment plants (FRANCAVILLA-FORO with 150 kW capacity and FRANCAVILLA-PRETARO with 135 kW capacity) serve approximately 38,000 inhabitants each (designed for 50,000) with 96% of users connected to the sewage system. Discharges occur 800 metres from the coast. No cyanobacterial blooms reported in recent years. Scarce algal blooms in summer period with occasional dinoflagellate blooms of low toxicity in past years.
