Czechia River 1 - Excellent

VN Palava is a small, shallow reservoir on Palava Creek with a surface area of 1.37 hectares situated at an altitude of 360 metres. The bathing area features a 300-metre sandy beach with grassy areas surrounding the reservoir and partially silty bottom. The site is popular with visitors, attracting up to 2,000 people and offering various recreational facilities. Water quality has improved significantly since 2008, with low chlorophyll levels and high transparency reported in recent years.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for microbial contamination. Phosphorus content: Long-term compliance with general requirements and bathing water catchment requirements. Algae occurrence: Minimal since 2008; high algae content and elevated chlorophyll-a values recorded before 2008, particularly in 2007. Since 2008, no significant algae blooms; 2010 showed no occurrence; 2011 showed only small amounts in one sample. Chlorophyll-a levels: Previously elevated with reduced transparency before 2008; since then levels are low with high transparency.

Risks

Before 2008, bathing unsuitable for vulnerable persons due to algae occurrence and elevated chlorophyll-a values. Diffuse pollution sources identified: municipal areas (parts of Blansko including Obůrka, Českovice, Těchov) present low risk; recreational facilities upstream present low risk; fish farming operations on Palava I and II reservoirs present medium risk dependent on fertilisation and feeding methods; recreational use presents medium risk dependent on intensity.
