Waldbad Zehdenick is a bathing area located 60 km north of Berlin in a former clay pit with a surface area of 20 hectares. The site has no inflow or outflow and exhibits low water transparency ranging from 0.3 to 1.7 metres. The water body is eutrophic and frequently experiences cyanobacterial blooms during summer months. The bathing area offers non-swimmer sections and rowboat rental facilities.

Water

Former clay pit lake (Baggersee) with surface area of 20.26 hectares. No inflow or outflow. Unlaminated. Sand shoreline with natural or near-natural structure. Water temperature range: 10.3–25.9 °C (mean 20 °C). pH range: 8.4–9.3 (mean 8.7). Water transparency range: 0.3–1.7 metres (mean 0.6 m). Freshwater (salinity < 0.5‰). Polytrophic nutrient status.

Zehdenick-Neuhof, Landkreis Oberhavel, Brandenburg, 60 km north of Berlin. Coordinates: 3388796 (Rechtswert), 5873571 (Hochwert). Beach length: 100 metres.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent for all monitoring periods 2016–2024. Escherichia coli 95-percentile range: 23–44 per 100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 95-percentile range: 20–35 per 100 ml. No individual value exceedances of microbiological parameters recorded. Eutrophication indicated by high pH values and frequent cyanobacterial blooms.

Risks

Frequent cyanobacterial blooms observed during bathing season with anticipated future mass developments. High fish stock (presumed high nutrient input source). Expected short-term microbiological contamination 1–2 times per season lasting maximum 72 hours due to pump station operation.
