Zlatni Pyasatsi-Riviera is a sea bathing water located in northeastern Bulgaria near Varna. The beach is a sandy strip divided by groins with coarse sand, sand dunes, and grass, situated within the Riviera resort complex. The beach has a length of 700 meters and is accessible by private and public transport. The coastal zone is heavily urbanized and modified, with low flat terraces and relatively wide beaches in the resort area.

Water

Sea water in the Black Sea Basin. Beach strip 700 meters long. Water temperatures recorded: June 22–23°C, July 26–27°C, August 27–28°C, September 22–24°C.

Location

Varna Province, northeastern Bulgaria. The bathing water is located within the closed Riviera resort complex in the Zlatni Pyasatsi area. Accessible by private and public transport. Coordinates: latitude N 43°16'11'', longitude E 28°02'21''.

Facilities

Six lifeguard posts, two medical points, four toilet blocks, showers including mineral water showers from private borehole, changing rooms, accessible facilities for people with reduced mobility, waste bins, dogs prohibited.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent from 2007 to 2014 (compliant with guide values), excellent in 2015–2016, good in 2017–2018, and excellent from 2019 to 2021. Potential short-term pollution from Zlatni Pyasatsi wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). WWTP discharges treated effluent 2 kilometers offshore. During peak summer season, the WWTP experiences hydraulic overload and ineffective operation.

Risks

Potential contamination from Zlatni Pyasatsi wastewater treatment plant. WWTP operates ineffectively and becomes overloaded during summer season with hydraulic ratio reaching 1:8 during peak hours. Equipment is extremely worn, in use for over 25 years. Mineral water showers from the beach discharge into the bathing zone.
